Boating Around Kentucky Lake

Kentucky Lake offers 160,000 acres of water and boating fun, with 2,380 miles of shoreline – it all starts just 1/2 mile from our resort! Lake Barkley is a 57,920 acre lake just 8 miles from Early American Motel. There are numerous boat ramps located close to our resort.

Kenlake Marina

The marina is equipped with 76 open slips, 130 covered slips, and a free launching ramp. Rental fishing boats, pontoon boats, and ski boats are also available. Fenton Landing

Located right across Kentucky Lake bridge (Eggner’s Ferry Bridge) in Land Between the Lakes.

Cherokee Beach

Boat launch area secluded and conveniently located close to Early American Motel.

Fishing

Kentucky Lake & Barkley Lake

Kentucky Lake has 160,000 acres of water and 2,380 miles of shoreline – the longest shoreline of any man-made lake in the world. And Lake Barkley, located just eight miles from Early American Motel, is a 57,920-acre year-round boating and fishing paradise. Both lakes offer largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, Kentucky (spotted) bass, white bass, striped bass, white and black crappie, blue gill, rock fish, and catfish.

Kenlake Marina

Located within a mile of Early American Motel, Kenlake Marina is a full-service marina offering bait/tackle, fishing license, covered and uncovered slips, a free launching ramp, and fishing boat rentals, as well. Call (270) 474-2245 or (800) 624-4124.

Fishing License

All Kentucky anglers who fish reciprocal waters must have a valid Kentucky Fishing License. On Kentucky Lake, anglers with either a valid Kentucky or Tennessee sport fishing license may fish from Eggner’s Ferry Bridge, (US 68 and HWY 80) in Kentucky, south to the Governor Ned McWorter Bridge (US 79 and HWY 76) in Tennessee. This includes all embayments and tributaries, except the Blood River embayment in Kentucky. Anglers must abide by the fishing regulations of the state in which they are fishing.

Hiking & Biking Trails

Kenlake State Park, 1/2 mile from Early American Motel, has two nature trails through wooded terrain. The Cherokee Trail is .7 miles long and the Chickasaw Trail is 1 mile long. They may be hiked singularly or combined for a longer distance.

Land Between the Lakes

LBL trails are open year-round. Over 500 miles of trails and 200 miles of scenic roads lead to some of the most wonderful spots at Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area. Native wildlife, plants and wildflowers thrive in our woods, fields, and lakeshores. Our trail system is extensive, offering a variety of excursion possibilities.

Horseback Riding

Horseback Riding in the Kentucky Lake Area

Land Between the Lakes offers over 70 miles of horse and wagon trails leading from the Wrangler’s Ranch. There is also an extensive network of old roads that lead to some of the most scenic spots at LBL. Wrangler’s Ranch borders Lake Barkley and beautiful Fords Bay on the east, and nestled between Laura Furnace Creek and Lick Creek on the west. It’s the only place at LBL designed for horseback riders and wagons.

Wrangler’s Riding Stables

Trails wind through rolling hills, forests filled with wildlife, and along the shores of Lake Barkley. Some of LBL’s most unique historic sites are found along the trail. Ride to the ruins of Laura Furnace, once a major iron producer, silent now for over 100 years. Deer, wild turkey, majestic hawks, and a shoreline teeming with waterfowl are just a few of the pleasures you’ll find along the trail!

Hunting

Hunting at Kentucky Lake

With thousands of acres teeming with game and over 300 miles of undeveloped shoreline, Land Between The Lakes offers an impressive variety of hunting opportunities and more than 250 days a year of in-season hunting. Hunters will find white-tailed deer, wild turkey, squirrels, and other forest game species abundant.

Bring the family

There are annual spring turkey and squirrel hunts, fall/winter hunts for deer, waterfowl, and a variety of small game species. Many hunters bring their families to enjoy this and other area activities.

Land Between the Lakes is an approximately 8 mile wide, 40 mile long, 170,000 acre national forestry recreation area between Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley. While LBL remains unspoiled, it draws some 2.5 million visits each year. You’ll discover more than 200 miles of hiking, biking, and horseback riding trails and any type of water sports you can imagine! It also offers the 2,500-acre Turkey Bay Off-Highway Vehicle riding area.

Destinations

The Elk and Bison Prairie is just about 3 miles from Early American Motel. See the stars at the Golden Pond Planetarium, located at the Golden Pond Visitor’s Center. The Woodlands Nature Station has lots to see and do for visitors of all ages. And visit an 1850’s working farm at the Home Place Living History Farm – 1850’s.

Kenlake State Resort Park

Kenlake State Park is located 1/2 mile from Early American Motel. It is a 1,795 acre park offering many activities for the vacationer and sportsman alike. Kenlake has two nature trails through wooded terrain, that may be hiked singularly or combined for longer distance. The Cherokee Trail is .7 miles long and the Chickasaw Trail is 1 mile long.

Things to do

Picnic and playground areas can be found throughout the park. There are also two shelters located near the tennis courts that are available for rental. Special events are held throughout the year as well.

Hazel

Kentucky’s oldest and largest antique shopping district. Fourteen shops and malls, offering a full day of fun and a unique shopping experience. Located approximately 24 miles from our resort.

Cadiz

Cadiz Antique District offers five unique antique malls located in a 2-block area on Highway 68, in the business district of downtown Cadiz, 20 miles from Early American Motel. There is a wide variety of antiques and collectibles for the advanced as well as the novice collector.
Paducah Antique Stores – located 1/2 way between St. Louis and Nashville on I-24. Paducah’s Antique Hub is located within walking distance of the Market House Square Historic District. More antique malls and stores are located throughout the city.
Twin Lakes Antique Mall is located off of Highway 68 on Highway 641 North, about 20 miles from Early American Motel. They have over 170 dealers under one roof. Largest antique mall between St. Louis and Nashville. For more information, call (270) 362-2218.
